Metodi didattici
Teaching methods include lectures, tutorials, discussion, collaborative learning and guided independent study. Lectures present key concepts using projected slides (supports LO.1, LO.2), facilitate interactive discussion and collaborative learning (supports LO.3, LO.5) and are supported by the e-learning platform, including online classroom response activities (supports LO.5). Tutorials provide opportunities to clarify concepts and apply learning through guided practice. Teaching will include mock exams and guidance to help you prepare for the exam, alongside references to further readings and other materials to support your development (supports LO.5).

Contenuti
The module will introduce you to the fundamental principles of physics and the methods of physical investigation relevant to medical and biological applications. It provides a review of basic physics concepts with specific reference to their use in medicine and healthcare technologies. The programme covers fluid mechanics, with applications to physiological fluids and flow phenomena, and biomechanics, focusing on the mechanical behaviour of biological systems. Thermodynamics is addressed in relation to energy transfer, temperature, and heat exchange in living systems and medical devices. The course also includes electromagnetism, covering basic electric and magnetic phenomena relevant to bioelectric processes and medical instrumentation. Additional topics include diffusion phenomena in biological media and wave phenomena, with particular reference to acoustics and optics and their medical applications. The course concludes with an introduction to radiations, their physical properties, and interaction with matter. Laboratory practice supports the understanding of theoretical concepts through applied examples.
