Syllabus
Course Objectives
The Architectural Restoration course is intended for all students enrolled in the “Laurea L.M. 4 C.U. Ingegneria Edile-Architettura” with the aim of enriching their academic path through a specific focus on the conservation of built heritage. All the skills acquired during previous years of study will be essential for developing proactive strategies for the active safeguarding and enhancement of cultural heritage. The course therefore seeks to engage students with the themes of built heritage conservation, placing particular emphasis on the various methodologies and practices adopted in different countries around the world. Particular attention will be devoted to the study of conservation methods and criteria in dialogue with the needs of local cultures. The course will place strong emphasis on the principles of the United Nations 2030 Agenda and on international regulations.
Course Prerequisites
Students must comply with the prerequisites outlined in the academic plan of the degree course. Language: English (main language), Italian and Spanish
Teaching Methods
Following the theoretical and in-depth lectures, students will participate in laboratory sessions structured around classroom exercises for the development of the assigned project, interactive discussions between students and the instructor, and seminars featuring guest lecturers from various disciplinary fields and from other national and international universities. Collaboration with all faculty members of the “Laurea L.M. 4 C.U. Ingegneria Edile-Architettura”.will be essential.
Assessment Methods
Oral exam and active participation in the Project Exhibition scheduled for the last day of the course. The Exhibition is part of the final evaluation.

Contents
The course program is structured in three sections: 1) History and comparative philosophy of architectural restoration whose focus is mainly dedicated to knowing the different methodological perspectives that since ancient times have been applied in many countries of the world. 2) Techniques and Methods of analysis and intervention. This section will be dedicated to the presentation of restoration projects carried out in different countries in order to encourage actions of dialogue with other cultures and very important to be able to appreciate the meaning of the actions aimed at cultural heritage. 3) Culture and Design. Particular attention will be paid to national and international regulations as well as to the United Nations 2030 Agenda. The theme of the project will be analyzed and developed in dialogue with the different cultural paradigms.
