Communicating with others is indispensable. Proper interpersonal communication is an indispensable working tool in the relationship to achieve one’s goals of supporting the other. The relationship of help is established between one person who is in difficulty or who has a need and another who is able to support this request. There are two assumptions that must be fulfilled to be able to help someone: the ability to stay within the relationship and secondly to empathize with the world of the other without being involved in it and without making judgments. Learning objectives. Acquire good practices that promote interpersonal communication in a supportive relationship: - suspension of judgment and of the need to frame the situation by means of its own models of interpretation; - listen and wait, because the important part comes at the end of the story after the user has 'tested' the patience of his interlocutor; - show empathy also through questions with which to confirm one’s intuitions about the state of mind of the interlocutor (never take anything for granted); - maintain the environmental conditions under which communication takes place so that the other person is as comfortable as possible.
