The course aims to analyze the roots and development of cultures and political movements in Italy, from the Risorgimento to the crisis of the so-called "Prima Repubblica". Particular attention will be paid to the evolution of the political parties, through the experiences of the mass society of the late Nineteenth-early Twentieth Century and of the fascism. The course will focus extensively on the period of Republican Italy, in which political parties take on a central importance as regards political mobilization and the functioning of institutions.
Course Prerequisites
A general background knowledge on Contemporary World History, with a focus on Italian history, is useful. An exam of Contemporary History is therefore welcomed.

Oral Exam aiming at assessing students' ability in matching causes and effects of the phenomena focused in the course. Appropriate reconstruction of historical processes and their chronology will be also verified.
