With reference to knowledge and comprehension skills, the course aims to enable the student to: 1. know the modes of transmission of ancient theatrical texts; 2. know theatrical works in the contexts of performance and spectacle 3. examine and reconsider the main textual, metrical, interlocutional problems in the scenic and spectacular dimension. With reference to applied knowledge and comprehension skills the reading of broad passages of a Greek comedy, considered as a work of drama and not as an example of literature, will be proposed through the re-examination of its verbal aspects, the tradition of the text and possible indications that refer to the performance. In addition, a selection of manifestations of the reception of the comic text in later periods will be proposed.
Course Prerequisites
Knowledge of Ancient Greek and Latin is required. It is suggested that students who feel they do not have the indicated prerequisites contact the lecturer before the start of the lessons.

Assessment Methods
The test is oral and want to test knowledge a. of the topics and ancient texts presented in the original and discussed during the lectures, with metrical reading of Aristophanes' Peace; b. of the bibliography indicated.
Texts
For points 1 and 2, teaching materials will be provided during the lesson, which can be found on the Kyro. For the point 3a, the reading of Aristophanes' Peace. For the point 3b, hints and teaching materials will be provided in class. For the point 4, the study of the following two texts is required: a. G. Mastromarco-P. Totaro, History of Greek Theatre, Firenze 2008; b. Storia del teatro latino, a c. di G. Petrone, Roma 2020. The reading of the following works is required: Aeschylus, Agamemnon Euripides, Sophocles, Antigone, Hippolytos Menander, Dyskolos Plautus, Amphitruo These texts are not required to be read in the original language, and the student may use the translation he or she considers preferable. The lecturer will however provide a list of editions with Italian translation recommended.
