Familiarize students with the naturalistic revolution of the Carracci workshop and the roots of the Baroque language. Through the iconographic analysis of Bolognese and Roman pictorial cycles, foster critical debate on the different methods of interpreting artistic events.
Course Prerequisites
Good knowledge of the history of Italian art in the sixteenth century
Teaching Methods
Frontal lessons with power-point projection (available on the Kiro platform). The first slide of each power-point contains the bibliography of the subject dealt with.
Assessment Methods
The exam is oral. Starting from an image selected from the PowerPoint presentation, the candidate will identify the artist and/or the work, specifying its iconography, the context of the commission, and its chronology. They will demonstrate knowledge of the critical debate surrounding the work and the movement within which it is located.
