Course Objectives
The workshop aims to orient students with regarding the broad (and often little-known) spectrum of professions connected to live performance and performing arts, with particular attention to the new possibilities that have established themselves in this sense in recent decades, in an interdisciplinary perspective that comes to life on the boundaries between art, culture and society. In this sense, the workshop also intends to provide notions relating to the mechanisms that regulate the production system and the job market today, with specific reference to the forms of self-entrepreneurship and protection of artists and operators in this sector. A further objective is to bring to the attention of students the great complexity that today characterizes the sector of live performance, performing arts, social theater and cultural events, making them grasp, within this complexity, the elements that characterize the most interesting experiences from the point of view of resilience and planning sustainability. Regarding the area of project, the workshop aims to provide a methodological and practical basis on project writing: from mapping and analysis of the context, to the definition of intervention plans. As an outcome, students will acquire specific skills in the elaboration of project proposals in two areas: the artistic-cultural dimension of live performance and festivals (Donato Nubile), or the dimension of social theater with a high level of participation of those involved (Francesca Gentile). Furthermore, students will acquire theoretical-methodological and practical knowledge on the fundamental principles of individual and/or group dramaturgy and the writing of a dramatic text (Renato Gabrielli).
Course Prerequisites
The school is made up of three modules, the attendance of the three modules is compulsory: Scuola di alta formazione "mestieri per lo spettacolo, i media e gli eventi culturali" (Donato Nubile), "Drammaturgia e progettazione nel teatro sociale" (Francesca Gentile), "Laboratorio di drammaturgia" (Renato Gabrielli). To attend the workshop, it is advisable to have a basic knowledge of the organizational and production processes of live entertainment and events, of the most widespread professional figures typical of these sectors.
Teaching Methods
Teaching makes use of lectures and laboratory activities. Power Point presentations will be used to carry out the lectures, for the part of the course on the entertainment professions students will take advantage of testimonies from experts and professionals in the sector. The teaching of project writing will follow the methodology of project work and the most applicative part will take place in connection with a specific experience of either social and participatory theatre, or event and live performance; will be elaborated in group work followed by the reference teacher. For learning theatrical dramaturgy practices, the module will also make use of viewing and listening to audio and video materials, reading aloud and interpreting texts and the production of dramaturgical content will be developed with direct tutoring from the teacher.
Assessment Methods
Elaboration of a group project that, following concrete cases of live performance experiences or social theatre interventions, makes social theatre, the arts and culture protagonists as a response to the needs of a specific reference community and with a view to sustainability. As regards the production of dramaturgical contents, students will develop an individual and/or group dramatic text, discussed in the classroom by the teacher. The evaluation will be unique for the three modules and will not have one grade out of thirty, it will be expressed in terms of eligibility, resulting from compulsory attendance and the production of the results of the laboratory work.
Texts
The workshop includes mandatory attendance in order to achieve final eligibility, with the production of one group project in the field of live performance or social theater as regards the two project writing modules; with the creation of a short individual and/or collective dramatic text regarding the dramaturgy workshop.
