The course aims to provide the student with the tools necessary to know the main diseases of internal medicine, in particular starting from the collection of symptoms and signs. Since the course is also aimed at students of the degree course in Obstetrics, some details are provided regarding the diseases that can appear more frequently in pregnancy, complicating the course of pregnancy and childbirth.
Course Prerequisites
Essential prerequisites are the knowledges acquired in the courses of Human Anatomy and Physiology.
Teaching Methods
Lessons with the aid of slides. Movies relating to procedures (rachicentesis, paracentesis, thoracentesis, etc.) obtained from the New England Journal of Medicine.
Assessment Methods
Oral exam with open questions that will focus on the topics covered in the frontal lessons.

The pathologies of the various organs and systems are discussed starting from the signs and symptoms that characterize them. The following topics are analyzed in some detail: dyspnea, cough, hemoptysis, pleural effusion; nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, fever, jaundice, ascites; syncope, coma (with particular reference to metabolic comas and those related to ischemic-haemorrhagic stroke); hypertension; bleeding diathesis, thrombophilic diathesis, anemia; hematuria, acute and chronic renal failure, urinary tract infection; diabetes mellitus; acid-base disturbances and electrolyte disturbances. For some pathologies, additional information is provided relating to them during the pregnancy.
