Syllabus

Course Objectives

• Acquire new specific knowledge for the physical examination of the individual.
• Gather data useful for clinical reasoning.
• Utilize manual physiotherapy techniques beneficial for clinical treatment.

Course Prerequisites

Knowledge of the human musculoskeletal system and physiotherapic assessment.

Teaching Methods

Lectures supplemented with instructional videos and introductory practice of manual therapy.

Assessment Methods

The exam will be taken in written form, with a section of multiple-choice questions, a section of definitions of specific terms, and a section of open-ended questions.

• Basics of clinical reasoning, role, and capabilities of the physiotherapist.
• Medical history taking, pain classification, red flags.
• Classification and characterization of mobilization techniques.
• Therapeutic exercise: rationale and basic principles of its application.
• History of musculoskeletal pain.
• History of the myofascial system and classification of fascia.
• Person assessment, physical examination, and trigger point treatment.
• Physiotherapic massage: indications and contraindications, good clinical practices.
• Fundamental massage maneuvers (effleurage, friction, pressure, kneading, vibrations, percussion).
• Scar massage: classification of scars, physiotherapic assessment, indications and contraindications for treatment, treatment techniques.
