The course aims to provide an understanding of the basic elements of Criminal Procedure as applied to prevention. This will prepare Judicial Police Officers and Agents who will operate in public services to perform the Judicial Police activities required of them. This will enable them to act in the event of a crime being committed, assessing which Judicial Police Procedure is applicable to the specific case, and explaining the reasons for their choice to the person responsible for the activity being performed.
Course Prerequisites
Knowledge of the basic concepts of criminal law is required: sources of criminal law, typologies of crimes, objective and subjective elements of the crime, and punishment.
Teaching Methods
Teaching will include lectures using PowerPoint presentations, which will be made available to students in the dedicated teaching section of the KIRO platform. Real-world cases will be analyzed and all the resulting Judicial Police Documents will be drafted. Simulations of immediate interventions in the context of criminal prevention will be performed to learn how to secure sources of evidence, which Judicial Police Documents to implement, and how to interact with the Judicial Authority and other law enforcement agencies.
Assessment Methods
Learning will be assessed through an oral exam during which students will be required to draft a judicial police report, justifying their choice. The Italian Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure are acceptable for the exam.
