Course Objectives

The course "Project Management in Organizational and Educational priorities of nursing/midwifery care" promotes students' critical thinking on clinical, educational, and research projects. This course offers practical experiences for using specific tools and methods of Project Management (PM). Reaching these educational goals is pivotal due to enabling students to ensure that the project's scientific rigor works in the setting of public health.
Specifically, at the end of the course, the student will be able to:
- Define the theoretical principles of Project Management applied to the organizational and training contexts
- Perform context analysis and defining a research problem
- Use the project tools (e.g., WBS, Ishikawa diagram, etc.)
- Define and evaluate project evaluation objectives and quality indicators
- Develop and consider communication aspects within the project activities

Course Prerequisites

Conceptual bases, methods and techniques of
qualitative and quantitative research to be applied to the nursing and obstetric context

Teaching Methods

The course offers both theoretical and practical lessons. The first lessons address the students' educational need for consolidating the main theoretical principles of Project Management (e.g., Portafolio Management, Programme management, Project leadership, etc). On the other hand, the second part of the course provides practical exercises through working group activities guided by the course providers (e.g. identify and perform stakeholder analysis, develop a WBS and create a project charter, etc).

Assessment Methods

In line with the learning objectives, this course includes two integrated assessment components:
GROUP EXERCISE
This represents an in-progress / partial assessment, carried out in class under the supervision of the instructor.
Working groups will be required to meet specific evaluation criteria related to the analysis of a project or PDTA (Diagnostic and Therapeutic Care Pathway).
The group work must be presented in a plenary session through a short PowerPoint presentation (maximum of 5 slides and 30 minutes per group).
The timing, modalities, and tools for the activity will be defined and agreed upon with the students.
Weight: 15 points out of 30.
This exercise aims to assess students’ operational, analytical, and critical-decision-making skills related to project design in healthcare settings.
WRITTEN EXAM
This test, complementing the previous one, is designed to assess the acquisition of theoretical knowledge related to project design.
It consists of a written test with 15 multiple-choice questions.
Weight: 15 points out of 30.
The final grade will be expressed on a scale of 30 points.
