The course aims at introducing the principles of quantitative approach to human movement by its measurement and consequent assessment. Different contexts where movement measurement can be used (rehabilitation, geriatrics, ergonomics, sport, etc.) will be considered.

Definition of measurement and assessment and their purpose. Qualitative scales: general features; different types of scales. Objective measurement: principles, units and the International System; measurement error and its propagation. Measurement chain. Human movement analysis with wearable sensors. Quantitative evaluation functional scales with instrumentation Instruments for kinetic data acquisition: force platforms, sensorized carpets, pedobarometric platforms, sensorized insoles. Instruments for kinematic data acquisition: stereophotogrammetric system, Microsoft Kinect system. Software for motion analysis: Kinovea. Gait analysis and static and dynamic posturography.
