Work protocols aimed at the functional evaluation in the field of sport
Course Prerequisites
Knowledge of the basic and applied elements of human physiology
Teaching Methods
The course is organized into lectures delivered through presentations and discussion sessions. Several publications from indexed journals will also be presented, illustrating the latest advances in functional assessment. Some lectures will be held in the laboratory to provide hands-on training in functional assessment techniques.
Assessment Methods
- Final exam (oral, written, practical) Oral: dissertation/discussion of a scientific article selected by the student using major international search engines, based on keywords related to topics covered in the study program. The dissertation requires the preparation of a PowerPoint presentation, followed by a critical discussion of the selected case, through which the student’s knowledge of the course topics will be assessed.
Texts
- D'Antona G. AAVV. Attività Fisica Poletto Editore 2019 -ACSM's Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription, Lippincott Williams and Wilkins 2017
Contents
SKILLS TO ACQUIRE: - Seek, understand and analyze the data provided by the literature; - Learn more about the technical and functional characteristics of equipments and laboratory materials (ergometers, gas analyzers, force platforms, surface EMG , bioimpedentiometry, motion analysis tools, etc.); -Study of specific functional parameters such as HRV (Heart Rate Variability), CP (Critical Power), FTP (Functional Threshold Power), MLSS (Maximal Lactate steady state), EPOC (Excess postexercise Oxygen Consumption), Isocapnic buffering, etc. . Analyze the collected data and connect them properly, even from a statistical point of view; . Structuring work protocols; - Deepen the concept of exercise prescription
