Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course provides the tools to analyse international trade and international macroeconomics. After completing this course, students will be able to understand and interpret the global landscape regarding trade policies, exchange rate policies, and macroeconomic policies in general. Additionally, the 9 ECTS course will offer students insights into the behavior of multinational enterprises. The course aims to enhance awareness and understanding of the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) promoted by the UN by 2030, with a particular focus on how economic theory contributes to achieving these goals.

Course Prerequisites

Knowledge of the main concepts from microeconomics (consumer behaviour and demand theory; market equilibrium with perfect competition, monopoly, and monopolistic competition) and macroeconomics (national accounting, IS-LM model). Knowledge of the basic concepts of statistical inference.

Teaching Methods

Lectures will be held in person on the university premises. The course also includes students’ presentations on related topics.

Assessment Methods

Written exam. Three open-ended questions, each divided into sub-points. Each question is worth a maximum of 10 points. Time limit: 1 hour.

Up to 2 additional points can be earned through class participation and will be considered only once, the first time the student takes the exam, in the first two exam dates (January or February).

Up to 4 additional points can be earned through a paper presentation during the course and will be considered only once, the first time the student takes the exam, in the first two exam dates.
