Mass media and technology are narrowly connected with the mechanisms of public opinion formation and both élite and citizens behaviour. The aim of the course is giving students knowledge and tools in order to analyse (theories, concepts, empirical research)and undestand the relationships between elections, the processes of public opinion formation and the characteristics of the media. The course will put a prevalent focus on the Italian case in comparative perspective.

The course includes lectures, tasks and discussions.
Assessment Methods
Oral (with eventual presentations and tasks to be planned with the professor). The exam aims at testing students' competence (substantively and methodologically) in analysing the relationship between the processes of public opinion formation and élite, media and citizens

Contents
The topics dealt with will be: public opinion and electoral competition, polls and surveys; mass media and the technological revolution, politics on the media, electoral campaigns, electoral behavior.
