Syllabus
Course Objectives
The course aims at teaching students about the cultural and professional aspects of Environmental Evaluation.
Module 1 will provide the technical, scientific and cultural bases of Environmental Evaluation applied to the evaluation procedures required by the current regulations (both at the national and at the European levels). Such contents integrate those in Module 2 (Tools for Quality and the Environment taught by Prof. Vittorio Vaccari)
The students will acquire: theoretical and practical knowledge useful to navigate the different application of environmental Evaluation and they will be able to draft the technical documents required by the different procedures.
Expected learning outcomes are:
• Knowledge of the legislation defining the application for Environmental Evaluation in different contexts as well as the knowledge of the documents necessary for each procedure.
• Knowledge of the main cultural and technical issues underpinning Environmental Evaluation.
• Knowledge of Environmental Evaluation technical language
• Knowledge of the specific characteristics of the different processes (Environmental Impact Assessment - E.I.A., Strategic Environmental Assessment S.E.A. , Appropriate Assessment on the Implications of a plan or project for the Natura 2000 site VIncA)
• Ability to apply such knowledge to the drafting of the technical documents required by each procedure.

Course Prerequisites
Students should be familiar with notions of: botany, zoology, the basics of ecology, marine ecology, inland water ecology, applied ecology and plant ecology.
Teaching Methods
In-person lectures supported by PowerPoint presentation. The lecturer will provide real-life material such as documents and case studies which will be explained and commented covering a wide range of typologies of Evaluations and subject cases.
Assessment Methods
Oral examination. Students can sit the Module 1 and Module 2 exams in different sessions.
Final grade is the average of the grades of each module.

Students are expected to use the appropriate technical-scientific terminology.
