Course Objectives

The first module aims to provide students with a foundation in data collection, management, and
processing from various sources. It also aims to illustrate the artificial intelligence principles and primary
applications, enabling students to comprehend their working processes and appreciate their implications in
the legal context. The second module aims to equip students with essential knowledge and appropriate
methodological guidance to understand and resolve legal issues arising from the proliferation of innovative
technologies in private party relationships and in corporate contexts.

Course Prerequisites

For the first module: none. For the second module: a good understanding of the topics covered in the
"Institutions of Private Law" course and the principles related to obligatory rights and contracts is
required.

Teaching Methods

Teaching involves lectures accompanied by PowerPoint presentations. The first module also includes
laboratory activities conducted on computers using the open-source software Orange.

Assessment Methods

The examination consists of an individual oral test designed to evaluate the skills acquired in both course
modules. The final assessment is based on a thirtieth scale and is determined by the depth of
understanding of the topics presented and the ability to integrate the knowledge acquired during the
course.

Texts

Materials required for exam preparation will be provided to students and made available on the Kiro
platform.

Contents

The course is divided into two modules. The first module (ING-INF/05) provides a comprehensive
introduction to key concepts in computer science, data processing, and artificial intelligence, which are
progressively gaining importance among legal professionals. It focuses on the fundamentals of collecting,
managing, and processing data from diverse sources, as well as exploring methods and applications of
artificial intelligence. This knowledge serves as the foundation for understanding the content of the second
module (IUS/01). The second module follows the traditional structure of the "Institutions of Private Law"
courses and aims to analyze how information technology and artificial intelligence impact private law
institutions, leading to new cases and new offense modalities, and encouraging the adoption of regulatory
frameworks different from those previously in use.
