Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course aims to enlighten and examine in depth historical problems and their interconnection in contemporary world, from the end of 19th century until present. Lessons will offer a global, critical view on both socio-economical and political-cultural phenomena with a comparative approach among different areas and states. In a global framework, we will study the interactions between international processes and national and local realities, focusing in particular on European and Italian events.

Course Prerequisites

All students can attend this course.

Teaching Methods

Lectures and seminars. The required attendance is 75% of the course's lessons. Otherwise students will follow the appropriate program for non-attending students.

Assessment Methods

The exam will be oral and it will assess the students' knowledge of the topics covered in the course.

The attending students are required to study on slides and lecture notes, and one book chosen from the list below.

Contents

The course will examine some aspects and problems of the contemporary age from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the twenty-first century. The lessons will focus on the main junctions of European political, social and cultural history up to the first half of the twentieth century.
