Syllabus

Obiettivi Formativi

The objective of this course is to present different research approaches to prepare students for the development of their own research projects in the business discipline. The course will assist students in identifying and formulating a research problem, in selecting and applying appropriate research approaches and methods of inquiry (both quantitative or qualitative), and in presenting their results.
In particular, the objectives are:
- To identify a research problem
-To present various business research methods and techniques of data collection and analysis.
-To develop practical skills in developing research instruments, e.g. interview guidelines or questionnaires.
-To develop practical skills in analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data.
-To develop skills in writing a business research project.
- To develop skills in presenting and defending research findings.

Attendance is not compulsory but strongly recommended. Each session forms an integral and essential part of the unit as a whole. Students are expected to contribute to sessions: this does not mean simply turning up and letting others do the work but playing an active role in group discussions. If asked to prepare material in advance, students should make every effort to do so.

Verifica Apprendimento

- Assessment of a Research Project (40% of the total grade) and Written Exam (60% of the total grade)

The exam is based on the textbook - all chapters - and the slides used during lectures.

The questions aim to assess both understanding and comprehension of the topics covered during the lectures.

The duration of the written exam is 30 minutes.

Grading Scale: the grading scale ranges from 0 to 30 cum laude, with passing the exam requiring a minimum score of 18/30.

The exam is considered passed after achieving a MINIMUM GRADE of 18/30+ in both partial exams (Research Project) and (Written Exam) regardless of the average achieved in both.

Useful materials for the test: calculator and dictionary.

Communication of results: the result of the exam will be communicated through the esse3 system. Acceptance or rejection of the grade must occur in accordance with the current academic regulations of the University.

Supplementary readings will be announced throughout the course.

Contenuti

The course covers the following topics:

1)Research in Business Studies: the importance of research in business contexts, different research orientations, and research and ethics.
2)The Research Process: research problems, research design,execution, analysis, presentation, and discussion.
3)Qualitative Research: data collection, designing, and executing single and multiple case studies.
4)Quantitative Research: data collection, guidelines for constructing questionnaires, exploratory and inferencial analysis, interpretation of the results from a managerial perspective, and visualization of the data.
5)Applications with SPSS: development of both exploratory and inferential analysis and managerial interpretation of results.
6)How to do an International Research Project: the international dimension, collecting cross-cultural data, analysis of cross-cultural data, and enhancing trustworthiness of cross-cultural research.
7)Writing the Final Report: guidelines regarding good communication, language and flow, and form and style.
