Course Objectives

At the successful conclusion of this module, you should be able to demonstrate the following module level learning outcomes (MLOs):

MLO.1 Knowledge & Understanding
• Describe epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue types and functions.
• Explain blood composition, hemopoiesis, tissue differentiation, and histogenesis.
• Summarize principles of tissue organization and tissue engineering.
MLO.2 Application of Knowledge
• Identify tissues, cells, and structures in diagrams or micrographs.
• Apply histological knowledge to interpret tissue structure and function.
MLO.3 Autonomy of Judgement
• Distinguish normal from variant or abnormal tissues.
• Select correct explanations for observed histological features.
MLO.4 Learning Skills
• Use learning resources to reinforce tissue identification.
• Integrate histology with cytology and embryology to understand organ structure

Course Prerequisites

For further information please see the Integrated Course Syllabus for “[506504] - STRUCTURE OF THE BODY”.

Teaching Methods

Teaching methods include lectures, discussion and guided independent study. Lectures present key concepts (supports LO.1, LO.2) and include interactive discussion of clinical areas and research themes (supports LO.2-3). Teaching will include guidance to help you prepare for the exam (supports LO.5) and throughout you will be presented with references to further readings and other materials on the e-learning platform to support your development (supports LO.5).

Teaching on this course is enhanced by our visiting Professors, international experts, who will provide seminars on clinical and research areas (LO.3).
