Syllabus

Course Objectives


The course aims to introduce students to ultrasound as a diagnostic and anatomical tool. At the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Understand fundamental ultrasound principles: probe handling, knobology, image optimization.
2. Identify key structures of the Head and Neck: carotid artery, thyroid, trachea, esophagus.
3. Recognize organs and major vessels of the Upper Abdomen: liver, spleen, IVC, abdominal aorta (celiac trunk, SMA, bifurcation).
4. Visualize Urinary system: kidneys and bladder, including basic measurements

Course Prerequisites


Basic knowledge of first-year Human Anatomy. No prior ultrasound experience required.

Teaching Methods


Blended learning approach: Flipped-classroom introduction Online pre-learning module and quiz (knobology & physics) Frontal lectures on sonoanatomy Small-group hands-on scanning laboratory Interactive peer-to-peer learning with instructor supervision

Assessment Methods


Continuous assessment during practical sessions:
Correct probe handling
Proper acquisition of scanning planes
Correct anatomical identification
Final written exam on acquired skills and ultrasound anatomy
Mandatory completion of online quizzes and surveys
