Overview

Date/time interval

Primo Semestre (01/10/2025 - 10/01/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

GIS Module - The course aims to teach the use of QGIS software for geographic and spatial data analysis. The course aims to provide basic knowledge of raster and vector data, as well as more in-depth knowledge of terrain analysis (morphology and hydrology) and spatial analysis (geostatistics and query operations). The course teaches how to manage print layout and how to use multispectral imagery for remote sensing data analysis.

Long-term objective: Acquisition of a methodology and knowledge of various tools for applying GIS analysis in various environmental studies.

Course Prerequisites

Basic knowledge in informatics, windows operating system, windows office (excel). Compulsory is the successful exam in L34 Physical Geography and Cartography as well as in Geomorphology

Teaching Methods

Theoretical Lectures with power point presentations and exercises on PC

Assessment Methods

The final exam will consist of few oral questions and an exercise made at the PC on QGIS (40% each). The questions will focus on the theoretical aspects seen in the course or on the exercises made in class. The exam exercise will be similar to those made during the course, and you will be able to keep the course notes with you. The final mark will consider also the exercises made during the course, and the questions within (20%).
The final grade will be averaged with the mark got in the Remote Sensing module.
