Overview

Date/time interval

Primo Semestre (29/09/2025 - 16/01/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course aims to complete the notions of electrical machines learned in the basic course, where the topic was developed from a perspective of operational knowledge for the actual use of machines in a mainly industrial environment. In this course the operating principles of an electrical machine are considered, starting from the definition and calculation of the electrical inductances for structures in relative motion; definition of the electrical and mechanical equations in different reference systems; methodology for the generalized study of the different types of electric machines. Furthermore, upon completion of the previous courses, the operation of the synchronous machine at steady state is described in detail, both as an alternator and as a motor.

Course Prerequisites

Electrical circuits. Basic knowledge of electrical machines.

Teaching Methods

Lectures: 45 hours per year in the classroom

Assessment Methods

The exam consists of an oral test covering the topics discussed in the course, including those addressed during the exercises. During the oral interview, students will be asked to discuss key course contents and may be required to comment on or develop some of the exercises covered. The final grade will be based on the overall outcome of the oral exam.

Texts

Lecture notes provided by the Professor.
