Overview

Date/time interval

Primo Semestre (01/10/2025 - 16/01/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

- 1. Knowledge and understanding: knowing the mechanisms through which the interactions between biological systems and radiations are achieved and understand what are the effects on biological systems.
- 2. Applied knowledge and understanding: applying radiobiology knowledge to laboratory activities and knowing how to identify situations that require a radiobiological approach.
- 3. Independent judgment: knowing how to identify the situations in which one operates in a radiobiological context, assess the radiation protection context in which one operates and prepare the activity in terms of both personal and environmental protection in an appropriate manner.
- 4. Communication skills: knowing how to promptly communicate situations in which the application of radiobiological knowledge is required and the personal level of confidence with these activities.
- 5. Ability to learn: knowing how to self-assess, in different contexts, if the radiobiological knowledge acquired are adequate or if they needs implementation/deepening. On the basis of basic/theoretical radiobiological knowledge acquired, being able to quickly and confidently learn advanced or applied/practical radiobiological knowledge.

Course Prerequisites

The didactic activity represents an introduction for the student to radiations and their interactions with biological structures and therefore to better follow this training activity the student must:
- have attended the "physics", "chemistry" and "biochemistry" lessons; in this way the general concepts and preparatory information of physics, chemistry and biochemistry learned during these lessons can be applied to radiobiology.

Teaching Methods

The course is based on lectures with active participation of students in the evaluation of the interaction mechanisms between radiation and biological systems.
The required frequency is 75% of the hours provided.
The teacher is available for clarification on the topics covered in class.

Assessment Methods

The exam can only be taken by those who have attended at least 75% of the lesson hours.
Oral examination.
The result of the test is announced at the end of the oral exam and subsequently through the esse3 computer system.
