The aims of the course are: - to introduce the student to causes and mechanisms that are the basis of human pathological processes; - to acquire the basics of the immune response; - to learn scientific terms and language used in medicine in order to effectively communicate with other health workers.
Course Prerequisites
Knowledge of biochemistry, physiology and cellular biology.
Teaching Methods
Lectures of 50 minutes/hour
Assessment Methods
Written exam composed by open questions or multiple choice. For students belonging to the categories reported by the University, inclusive teaching will be planned from time to time.

Contents
Etiology Pathogens: (A) intrinsic to the organism (genetic pathology); B) extrinsic to the organism (environmental pathology): 1) physical agents (radiations, high and low temperatures); 2) chemical agents (damage mechanism, absorption and elimination pathways, organism defense mechanisms, exogenous and endogenous poisons); 3) nutritional alterations 4) biological interactions.
Regressive processes (cellular pathology) • hypoplasia, hypotrophy; • cellular degeneration, degeneration of the fundamental substance of the connective tissue; • pathological calcifications; • pathological pigmentation; • necrosis and apoptosis.
