The main objective of the course is to provide knowledge and understanding in the field of assessment tools like interviews, psychological and neuropsychological tests, and observations in order to evaluate a child's biopsychosocial development and to identify and diagnose the common psychopathological disorders in the developmental period. The goal is to develop a comprehensive understanding of the child's difficulties to formulate effective treatment plans and intervention strategies.
Course Prerequisites
The course prerequisites include a basic knowledge of developmental psychology and of theory and techniques of testing. Prospective students should be familiar with the fundamental concepts in these fields to effectively benefit from the course and learning materials.
Teaching Methods
The class will take place in person. The class will adopt a variety of learning methods, by blending traditional lectures with experiential learning activities and incorporating group discussions, case-based analyses, and practical exercises. For each CFU (25 hours), it is expected: 5 hours of “didattica erogativa – DE” teaching (slides, scientific papers); 1 hour of “didattica interattiva – DI” teaching (role playing, working in small groups); and 19 hours of individual study of the bibliography (suggested book(s), scientific paper(s), slides).
Assessment Methods
The examination will be written and, at student’s choosing, oral. The exam will cover the material and topics explained and discussed during the lectures. The written exam will have 30 multiple-choice closed questions (1 point for each correct answer, 0 points for each incorrect/missing answer; cutoff for passing grade=18). For students who obtained a score at the written exam equal to or above the passing grade and who want, it will be possible to take the oral exam (which will take place immediately after the written exam); for the oral exam a maximum of 3 points will be provided and will be added to the grade obtained in the written exam.
Texts
Slides presented during the lessons (slides will be available on Kyro). Scientific articles will be suggested during the lessons.
Contents
The class will provide an in-depth look at different psychodiagnostics tools for gathering information, such as clinical interviews, psychological and neuropsychological tests, behavioral observation, and biopsychosocial assessment. Specific developmental areas will include cognitive development (i.e., assessing intellectual abilities) and behavioral development (i.e., identifying problems like antisocial behavior, impulsivity, and disruptions).
