The module introduces to the main theoretical themes and the most important currents of philosophical thought between the Renaissance and modernity. The main objective is to enable students to read and interpret the texts of the authors that will be considered during the course, and also to facilitate independent reading of other authors from the period under examination. Furthermore, the module aims at the acquisition of the ability to place texts and authors in their historical-philosophical context, also in dialogue with the main critical interpretations.
Course Prerequisites
No prerequisites or specific knowledge beyond that required for admission to the three-year degree course in Philosophy are required.
Teaching Methods
The lecturers' presentations are supported by the use of materials made available on the KIRO platform. The commented reading of texts constitutes a fundamental part of the lectures, for which the active participation of students is indispensable. Attendance of the lectures is therefore strongly recommended.
Assessment Methods
Written test Two open questions to be answered in two hours. The use of textbooks or other printed or digital material is not permitted. The final mark, expressed as a fraction of 30, reflects the acquired knowledge, as well as the appropriateness of the exposition, and the terminological precision demonstrated by the student. For students attending both module a and module b, the mark will result from the weighted average of the two exams. The exam must be completed by the end of the following academic year.

Contents
The lectures will be devoted to the authors and fundamental philosophical themes of the 15th-18th centuries, from Ficino to the Enlightenment. The module combines an introduction to the individual authors with a systematic focus on recurring theoretical issues.
