Learning objectives In the light of recent changes of the labour market, the Organizational Psychology course aims to analyze the main topics and areas of competence of the work and organizational psychologist. Specific objective is to provide the most relevant notions (both theorical and practical) regarding organizations’ structure and functioning. Further objective is to deepen the individual and organizational effects of the recent contextual changes. Expected learning outcomes At the end of the course students will have specific knowledge about: a) Structural and systemic aspects regarding organizations, with specific reference to both hard (e.g. organograms) and soft elements (e.g. organizational climate). b) Work team: features, functional and dysfunctional aspects c) Effective leadership and fellowership models d) Personal resources that could be developed in organizational context order to support adjustment and well-being.
Course Prerequisites
In order to better understand the course contents, it is recommended that the students have already attended a basic course on work psychology.
Teaching Methods
The course takes place through in-person lessons. For each CFU (25 hours) is expected - 4 hours of teaching in DE delivery mode, i.e frontal teaching (content presentation via slides and scientific papers) - 2 hours of interactive teaching - DI (seminars by professionals) - 19 hours of self-study on the texts of the course bibliography and on the slides provided Meetings with the tutor for monitoring and self-evaluation of the knowledge acquired are scheduled.
Assessment Methods
The assessment consists in a written examination with 3 open-ended questions (20 lines for each answers). In order to pass the test, it is needed to answer to all the questions.

Examination will be based on the following book: -Argentero P., Cortese C. (a cura di), Manuale di psicologia del lavoro e delle organizzazioni, Volume II: Psicologia delle organizzazioni, Raffaello Cortina Editore, Milano, 2018. Chapters: 1, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 17. The above-mentioned book represents fundamental reference for lectures, together with the material available on Kiro.
Contents
The course will focus on: - development of the discipline - organizational climate and culture - role of personal resources in the workplace - teamwork - leadership and followership - organizational change and development - management of emergency situations. The contents and materials of the course are present and downloadable from the KIRO platform. Students will be able to find the main slides used for teaching on the KIRO platform, as well as the main video-recorded contents of similar lessons from previous years. The course contents will be often treated from an applicative perspective, providing practical cases and examples. The contents of the course will be addressed taking into consideration the ethical-deontological principles which - based on specific themes about organizational management in working contexts - will be described in detail by the teacher, both from a theoretical point of view and with a direct connection to practical activity (e.g. through the discussion of example cases).
