The course aims to provide useful tools for understanding the technique of psychoanalytic psychotherapy giving evidence of its effectiveness and its clinical applicability. At the end of the course the student will have acquired knowledge on the setting, the use of the unconscious, clinical listening and psychoanalitical psychopathology.
Course Prerequisites
Knowledge of dynamic psychology and advanced dynamic psychology is preferred. But open to all interested students. The student of this course is required to have the basic knowledge of dynamic psychology acquired with the dynamic psychology course
Teaching Methods
Interactive lectures and seminars on specific topics with invited colleguesOn the KIRO University platform there is a file with the presentation of the course and the main slides presented in class. For each 25 hours CFU are expected: 4 hours of teaching in delivered mode - DE (presentation of slides and scientific papers) 4 hours of teaching in interactive mode - DI (testimony of external specialists) 17 hours of self-study on texts in the bibliography and papers presented .
Assessment Methods
The exam will take place in written form with open-ended questions of the duration 45 minutesPossible alternative methods may be adopted in case of safety measures for the health situation and will be communicated by the teacher on the KIRO platform.

Contents
The first part of this course deals with important technical aspects of the psychotherapeutic treatment such as the therapeutic relationship, the setting, the diagnosis, and the process of treatment. The second part explores the psychoanalytic understanding of specific clinical disorders, including neuroses, psychosis and personality. We try to clarify and deepen the meaning and role of trauma, defence mechanisms, symptom-formation, as well as dreams in this psychoterapeutic process. Will be described with examples the complexity of the therapeutic encounter. We'll consider the clinical understanding of psychoanalytic psychotherapy by examining the role of the relationship between patients and therapists, the expectation and aims of treatment, and the importance of the psychoanalytic psychotherapeutic settinga specific look will be dedicated to the theory of the analytical field and the psychoanalysis of the future
