Course Objectives

The course aims to provide future professionals in the field of Sports Science with the communication skills necessary for the discussion of topics related to the main areas of motor science and sports education and participation in international research activities. The student will collect and interpret data related to the various fields of interdisciplinary knowledge that characterize the motor sciences focusing on the acquisition of academic English skills regarding data description and analysis of scientific writing: developing the basic knowledge of scientific English necessary for their program and future careers.

Teaching Methods

Interactive face-to-face classes are a mixture of lecture and discussion and are in English with a native speaker teacher. Online resources on KIRO will be used to assist with instruction, and students will be expected to complete assignments independently outside of class as part of the self-study program. Details regarding this will be given at the beginning of the course and during class.

Assessment Methods

The objective of the final oral examination is to encourage students to demonstrate their knowledge, understanding and skills related to scientific English and to give them the opportunity to select, organize and conduct an inquiry-based project on a topic relevant to their development and program. Presentation and discussion in English, and eventual translation into Italian of two articles in English on sport is required, one of which must be a scientific article, complete with graphs, tables and diagrams to be discussed in detail during the examination.
