Syllabus

Course Objectives

At the end of the course the student:

Must know:
1) the tools and radiological methods of investigation of the nervous system;
2) the radiological anatomy of the central and peripheral nervous system;
3) the main radiological pictures of the nervous system in normal and pathological conditions;
4) the main radiological pictures of the emergency / urgency of interventional and neurosurgical interest.

It must include:
1) the regulations of use and the contraindications to the use of conventional techniques and procedures;
2) the specifications, limits and advantages of radiological investigation techniques;
3) the use of radiological tools and investigation methodologies to be adopted based on the specific clinical question;
4) clinical and radiological indications for interventional and neurosurgical procedures.
Radiological equipment: types and operating characteristics of the radiological equipment used in neuroradiological diagnostics and intervention, with particular attention to the use of CT and MRI both in the acute phase and in the follow-up.

Investigation techniques to be used in the diagnosis of the main pathologies of the brain and spinal cord such as:
- acute and stabilized cerebrovascular diseases
- infectious-inflammatory diseases
- brain tumors
- spinal tumors
- brain aging and cognitive impairment
- degenerative pathologies of the brain
- cranio-spinal trauma
- epilepsy
- pathologies of the pituitary gland
- degenerative pathologies of the spine

Course Prerequisites

The course is part of the basic neuroradiological training of medical students, to better follow the course they must have attended courses and have acquired the basic knowledge of physics and physiology.

Teaching Methods

Frontal lessons

Assessment Methods

Written exam in a computerized classroom in person. Use of KiroTesting. 15 multiple choice questions (7 radiology, 4 Neuroradiology, 4 Radiotherapy) of which only one is correct and 3 open questions (1 for each module). The scores assigned by each question are weighted to the CFU of each module (Radiology/Neuroradiology/Radiotherapy). The questions may be theoretical or related to the interpretation of images. No penalty for errors. Duration 60 minutes.

Texts
