The course aims to: 1. Provide students with the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to the management of real or simulated clinical cases. 2.Encourage student engagement through interactive discussions, problem-solving activities, and small group work. 3. Enable students to make diagnoses by integrating patient history, clinical examination, laboratory results, and instrumental data. 4. Train students to distinguish between the main renal pathologies. 5. Prepare students to recognize and promptly treat critical clinical conditions such as acute kidney injury, hyperkalemia, and metabolic acidosis. Foster the ability to handle complex cases and make evidence-based decisions using a systematic clinical method. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: 1.Apply theoretical knowledge to clinical practice. 2.Recognize and manage major renal pathologies, including emergency situations. 3. Conduct structured diagnostic and differential diagnostic processes. 4.Select and implement the most appropriate treatment for each clinical case. 5. Employ a structured clinical method to address complex cases and make evidence-based decisions.
Course Prerequisites
Knowledge of renal anatomy and physiology.
Teaching Methods
The course is based on a series of interactive seminars dedicated to the discussion and resolution of real-life clinical cases in nephrology. The teaching approach is student-centered and aims to develop clinical reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Guided clinical case discussions: Each seminar includes the presentation of one or more clinical cases, which will be analyzed collectively with the support of the instructor. Students will be encouraged to propose diagnostic hypotheses, interpret clinical and laboratory data, and discuss possible treatment options. Active learning: Interaction between participants and instructor is an integral part of the method. Active participation, peer discussion, and critical reflection will be encouraged, including through the use of stimulating questions, short group work, or decision-making simulations. Teaching aids: The cases will be accompanied by visual materials (e.g., PowerPoint presentations, diagnostic images, laboratory graphs) to facilitate understanding and analysis.
