The course aims to provide fundamental knowledge on the pathogenesis, epidemiology, clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of diseases caused by infectious agents, with particular reference to contagious diseases. The course consists of lectures and interactive teaching, including the presentation of clinical cases, in order to enable students to acquire, by the end of the course, an appropriate clinical approach to the management of the most common infectious diseases and to correctly prescribe antibiotic therapy and general medical treatment, as well as to implement the necessary prophylaxis and public health measures. The principles of antimicrobial stewardship and infection control are also illustrated.
