Abstract:
The aim of this chapter is to highlight the contribution that large scale comparative studies – such as the Changing Academic Profession survey – make to a better understanding of the international dimension of the academic profession. As it is shown, the CAP survey provides estimates of the extent to which the academic profession is internationalized at the beginning of the twenty-first century, helps at investigating relevant aspects of academic work and career, such as individual engagement in international activities in general, international mobility, international research collaboration, and international publication, as well as at identifying some of the factors shaping them.
