Abstract:
Historians of sub-Saharan African societies rarely pay much attention to such issues as the perception, calculation and organization of time. They feel uncomfortable over entering a domain which seems to require substantive specialist knowledge (astronomy, mathematics, etc.). The article throws light on the Nzema calendar and annual festival, the Kundum (Nzema is located between Ghana and the Ivory Coast). These topics are analysed in comparative perspectiv with reference to the wider Akan cluster.
