Contents

The course aims to provide a general framework to the question of what it means to teach Philosophy. Starting from a broader metaphilosophical reflection on the nature of Philosophy and its disciplinary status, the main forms of teaching philosophy traditionally established in Italy will be examined. We will go into the specifics of the teaching of the discipline in secondary schools by examining the regulatory context. Teaching tools and methodologies useful to the teacher will be presented, also through their practical experimentation. The question of teaching Philosophy will therefore be expanded to other contexts and audiences. A reflection will be proposed on the nature and the purpose of Public Philosophy, in its different forms and types - from Philosophy for Children to Philosophy for Community. Finally, the question of evaluation and possible ways of giving value to the philosophical learning will be introduced. At the end of the course, students will be aware of the different elements to consider when planning an intervention of didactic of Philosophy. Course structure: 1) Teaching Philosophy: metaphilosophical, pedagogical and ethical questions. 2) Didactics of Philosophy: historical method, zetetic method, philosophy on and with texts, philosophy by concepts. 3) Philosophy at school: the Italian 'school', between tradition and innovation; experimentation of some specific teaching methodologies for philosophy lessons. 4) Philosophy for all or Public Philosophy: from Philosophy for Children to Philosophy for Community, towards a Citizen Philosophy? 5) The question of evaluation in Philosophy: different forms of evaluation, metacognition and self-evaluation. 6) Design a learning unit.
