Knowledge of the philological method in editing literary texts, both as applied to medieval works and the manuscript tradition of scribes and to the autographs of some of the major authors of Italian literature.
Course Prerequisites
Good knowledge of the major authors of Italian literature, especially from the early centuries to the Renaissance, as acquired during the first two years.
Teaching Methods
Lectures and handouts that the students will be provided with during the course and whose knowledge will be part of the final examination, along with the textbooks.
Assessment Methods
Oral exam. The final exam is intended to test both the knowledge of the theoretical principles of philolgy and that of the several significant cases that the course will have dealt with.
