Contents

Starting from the definition of medium, and its historical evolution, the course aims to explore the relationship between new media and traditional ones, passing through some fundamental junctions of contemporary culture such as the concept of “convergence” or that of “remediation”. Starting from these fundamental notions, we will focus in particular on the revolutions introduced by digital, exploring its languages and characteristics through some examples taken from the visual world (cinema, social media, virtual reality, augmented reality, metaverse, etc.), which will be explored in depth during the lessons. In this direction, the critical study of the contemporary media landscape will be urged, with special attention to the interaction between language and artistic forms.
