Course Prerequisites
Knowledge of the basics of history from its origins to the contemporary age. Knowledge of basic film grammar.
Teaching Methods
Lectures on the historiographical and theoretical aspects, viewing and analysis of film excerpts relevant to the course, meetings with experts.
Assessment Methods
Oral exam aimed at verifying the student's preparation and ability to read documentary language.

The first part of the course (18 hours) deals with some crucial moments in the history of documentary and experimental cinema, analyzing its authors, film manifesto, collective projects, production strategies, rhetoric of vision. The second part focuses mainly on the documentaries directed by Werner Herzog, a great author who has been revealing the deepest echoes of the reality.
