The standard study plan envisages the acquisition of 4 CFUs of internships or placements or other accreditable practical activity (Field Archaeology Training/Material Culture Laboratory), intended as operational-professional experiences in the field of archaeology.

Prerequisite: having taken our 1st year course "Reconstructing the Past: Methods and Tools".

The Department of Humanities of the University of Pavia is fully authorized to excavate and is currently excavating (or surveying) more archaeological sites both in Italy and abroad: Dos dell'Arca, Camonica Valley, BS (North-Italian Prehistory) - Niğde Kınık Höyük, Turkey (pre-Classical Anatolia) - Itri and Pofi (pre-Roman South Latium) - Ploutonion at Villa Adriana, Tivoli (the age of Hadrian) - Livorno Ferraris, VC, and Rivanazzano, PV (landscape archaeology of Roman age) - Pavia, St Mark's Church, in partnership with the Borromeo College (medieval archaeology).

In order to take part in Pavia University's archaeological excavations, the students should send an email with a declaration of interest to lorenzo.dalfonso@unipv.it or mariaelena.gorrini@unipv.it Archaeological excavations are usually conducted during the period from May to October.

The internship will be conducted in three equivalent and freely combinable ways: 1) archaeological activity in the field, in the form of surveying and/or excavating; 2) placement at a museum; 3) repository cataloguing.

Since the figure of the Student is equivalent to that of the Worker (art. 2 of Legislative Decree 81/08), it is mandatory to attend a GENERAL Training Course and a SPECIFIC Training Course. This latter has to be provided in the presence of a qualified teacher, because of the special issues concerning archaeological excavations (date/s to be defined - contact person: prof.ssa Maria Elena Gorrini - mariaelena.gorrini@unipv. it). In addition to this preliminary training, participation on archaeological excavation campaigns also requires a Certificate of Eligibility for the Specific Duty, issued by the Competent Doctor of the University of Pavia. Health Surveillance will only be activated by filling in the "Individual Occupational Risk Card" (to complete it, contact the Local Security Officer).
