Knowledge and Understanding 1. Describe the anatomical and physiological principles of endocrine glands relevant to surgical practice. 2. Explain the main clinical features, diagnostic approaches, and treatment principles of endocrine diseases requiring surgical management. Applying Knowledge and Understanding 3. Recognise the main indications for surgical treatment in endocrine disorders, including thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, pancreatic, and neuroendocrine tumours. 4. Apply basic clinical reasoning to the evaluation of common surgically relevant endocrine conditions.

Metodi didattici
Teaching methods include lectures, discussion of clinical cases, and guided independent study. Lectures provide the fundamental knowledge required to understand the anatomy, pathophysiology, clinical features, and surgical management principles of endocrine diseases requiring operative treatment (supports LO1–LO2). Discussion of representative clinical cases supports the application of knowledge to clinical scenarios, including recognition of surgical indications and the principles of multidisciplinary management (supports LO3–LO4). Guided independent study and additional learning resources support consolidation of knowledge and preparation for the final assessment.

Contenuti
The module introduces the principles of endocrine surgery, complementing the medical management of endocrine and metabolic diseases covered in the other modules of the integrated course. The programme includes the anatomy and physiology of endocrine glands relevant to surgery, principles of surgical indications, and multidisciplinary management of endocrine diseases. Topics include: • thyroid surgery, including toxic and non-toxic goitre, Graves–Basedow disease, thyroid nodules, and thyroid tumours; • parathyroid surgery and the management of hyperparathyroidism; • adrenal surgery, including adrenal incidentaloma, pheochromocytoma, and adrenal cortical tumours; • surgical management of pancreatic and gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumours; • endocrine surgery in Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia (MEN 1 and MEN 2) syndromes. Clinical cases are used to illustrate diagnostic pathways, surgical indications, and principles of multidisciplinary decision-making.
