The main objective of the course is to provide students with the necessary tools to understand the genesis of an opera production, through the analysis of the different phases (highlighting the main criteria for the definition of the artistic project) to its staging, analyzing the timing and the development of the production process. It will also provide a detailed historical overview of the role and legal characteristics of Italian opera houses, from 1700 to today. The main professional figures of a theatre will be examined and a comparison with some foreign musical realities will be made. An integral part of the course will also be the projection and analysis of some videos of opera productions and interviews with professionals in the sector. If possible, a visit to the Ponchielli Theatre in Cremona will be organised.

Basic knowledge of the opera repertoire (from Baroque to XX century)
