he course aims to provide a basic knowledge of the history of dance and music for dance from the fifteenth century to the end of the eighteenth century, as an indispensable complement to the training of musicologists and musicians. The institutional part of the course confronts the student with the history and geography of European dance between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries and with the reflection on historical dance, including the problems of reconstruction. The monographic section provides more specific methods and tools for deepening defined themes, through direct work on sources (treatises, scores, librettos and choreographies) and critical reading of literature on the topics covered. At the end of the course the student: knows the profile of the history of European dance from the 15th to the 18th century; is able to use online resources and specific bibliographic tools; is oriented towards treatises; knows the principles of choreography and notation for dance of the different periods; is able to analyze a score of music for dance of the period in question; knows the basic steps of dance of the 16th and 17th centuries; is able to critically evaluate the proposals for modern reconstruction of the repertoire covered by the monographic course.
