The course aims to acquaint participants with the multiple aspects involved in the treatment of a musician's epistolary, also by having recourse to numerous bibliographical tools, the existence of which must be known, as well as their correct use, also developing the ability to assess their reliability and quality. At the end of the course the student must be able to carry out a complete exegesis of an epistolary independently, also by means of adequate bibliographical research.
Course Prerequisites
Knowledge of the history and history of music. Basic knowledge of English and of computer applications.
Teaching Methods
Lectures, with extensive use of presentations (on screen) that will be made available on the Kiro platform. Guided exercises in the reading and transcription of letters by Amilcare Ponchielli. With regard to bibliographical tools, self-tests and a simulation of the written exam will be made available on the Kirotesting platform. Video recordings of the lectures will be made available for the envisaged categories of students unable to attend; alternatively, a different examination programme can be agreed upon.
Assessment Methods
The examination involves: - the preparation of two written papers (the transcription and commentary of a letter by Amilcare Ponchielli assigned by the lecturer; the review of a published epistolary), to be handed in to the lecturer at least one week before taking the oral exams - a written test, consisting of a series of questions to be answered with appropriate use of music dictionaries (also of musical themes), RILM, RISM, RIPM, the University Opac and SBN, in paper or electronic format depending on availability [maximum time of test: 1,5 hours]; Those who have already successfully passed the exam of Metodologia della ricerca [bibliografica] are exempt from this test. - oral test, discussion of the written test and the topics examined during the course. The written test is preparatory to the oral test, which can be taken even in a subsequent session, within one year from the passing of the written test. The grade is assigned only after the successful completion of the oral test. For the envisaged categories of students unable to attend, it will be possible to take the examinations remotely, in telematic form.
