Syllabus
Course Objectives
The Testing and psychodiagnosis course is designed to provide skills related to the principles of psychological diagnosis and the implementation of the psychodiagnostic process in clinical practice. Upon completion of the course, students will be expected to demonstrate: - knowledge and understanding of different approaches to psychological diagnosis; - knowledge, critical understanding of the principles underlying case formulation (in adulthood and developmental age); - practical ability to integrate their understanding of testing and diagnostic assessment within the clinical setting; - ability to communicate the topics covered in the course using the vocabulary of the discipline.
Course Prerequisites
There are no specific prerequisites. Basic testing and clinical psychology competence is recommended to better understand the clinical vignettes discussed. Test and measurement methods course from bachelor's degree program is a useful introduction to this course.
Teaching Methods
Following the University Guidelines, the course can be attended in person. All course materials will be available on KIRO. The course involves lectures, presentation of clinical cases, and in-depth work on specific areas of investigation for small groups. During the course extra materials will be provided as mandatory study materials for the final exams (scientific articles, literature reviews). For each CFU (25 hours) is expected 4 hours of teaching in DE delivery mode, i.e frontal teaching (content presentation via slides, scientific papers and videos) 2 hours of interactive teaching – DI, i.e. discussion on clinical cases, guided exercises, small group work between peers 14 hours of self-study on the texts of the course bibliography, on the slides provided and on the scientific articles indicated The course will include 12 hours of online seminars with a different lecturer focusing on narrative tests: coding, interpretation rules, and diagnostic report writing
Assessment Methods
The examination will consist of open questions test and a subsequent oral test. The written exam will consist of two open-ended questions, each assessed with 15 points. The evaluation criteria will include the relevance and completeness of the answer. The oral exam, which is mandatory, will focus on the text chosen by the student. The evaluation criteria are the answer's pertinence, comprehensiveness, correct use of technical terminology, and technical/clinical thinking skills.

Contents
The course explores the diagnostic process in clinical psychology, providing an overview of the main theoretical and practical issues related to case formulation. In particular, we will study in-depth: - the concept of psychological diagnosis and case formulation; - differences between a descriptive and a dimensional approach; - areas of functioning in clinical evaluation; - diagnosis according to different theoretical approaches (psychodynamic, cognitive, systemic); - integration of tools in case formulation (tests, clinical reasoning, subjectivity); - writing of the psychological assessment report; - case formulation: for whom, when, and how. The course will also provide information about the specificities of case formulation in the developmental age and forensic psychology. The course will mention ethical/ethical working principles that guide the psychodiagnostic assessment process. In particular, the course focuses on guiding the proper use of tools and communication of results, validitỳ of the data and information, the conditions of informed consent for adults and minors, professional secrecy, the principle of responsibility, professional competence, and interprofessional collaboration. Students will also work with the aid of clinical cases to encourage discussion and reasoning.
