Syllabus
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, the student acquires general knowledge of the themes and problems related to the Early Modern age (mid-fifteenth - early nineteenth century), as well as the awareness of the periodization criteria. He/she has particular knowledge of a broad internal theme of the early modern age, also in relation to the historiographical debate and the diversity and multiplicity of original sources. He is able to recognize the complexity of each historiographic construction by analyzing historical documents and authors and is able to frame the main historical problems according to the development of the historiographical debate.
Course Prerequisites
Ability to understand, analyze and synthesise a complex argumentative text; basic knowledge of general geography.
Teaching Methods
The course includes 36 hours of lectures and 6 hours of exercises to deepen some of the topics covered in the lessons. The lessons will benefit from the support of PowerPoint presentations available on the KIRO platform after the exhibition of each thematic unit for a limited time. Participation in visits or seminars is considered an integral part of the teaching activity of the course.
Assessment Methods
FOR ATTENDING STUDENTS. The exam will be divided into a written test (questions with open and closed answers). In the written test, a series of closed and open questions will be assigned to examine the knowledge of events and characters from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century, the ability to place them in a logical chronological arc and to argue critically, expressive mastery and specific language (knowledge of the manual). The test is considered passed with the achievement of sufficiency (18/30). FOR NON-ATTENDENT STUDENTS. The exam will be divided into a written test (questions with open and closed answers) where knowledge of the manual and a methodology reading will be examined. Students are invited to agree in time with the teacher by email on the choice of readings.

Contents
The course will consist of a series of lectures, of an institutional nature, on international relations, religious dynamics (Reformation, Counter- Reformation), economic dynamics (development of production and trade), social and institutional dynamics (the diversity of political regimes in Europe: from Tsarist Russia to the Ottoman Empire, from Spanish polycentrism to English democracy ...).
