At the successful conclusion of this module, you should be able to demonstrate the following Module Level Learning Outcomes:
CLO.1 Knowledge & Understanding You will acquire knowledge of: • the structure and organization of biological membranes and key signalling pathways; explain the molecular regulation of the cell cycle, proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis CLO.2 Application of Knowledge You will be able to: • apply knowledge of molecular and cellular processes to interpret cell function in health and disease; analyse signalling and regulatory pathways to predict cellular responses. CLO.3 Autonomy of Judgement You will be able to: • integrate molecular and cellular knowledge to draw reasoned conclusions about cellular function CLO.4 Communication skills You will be able to: • clearly interpret and communicate cellular biochemistry concepts in writing. CLO.5 Learning Skills You will be able to: • demonstrate responsibility for independent study by integrating lectures, readings, and self-directed learning to acquire and integrate new cellular biochemistry knowledge

Metodi didattici
Teaching methods include lectures, discussion and guided independent study. Lectures present key concepts (supports LO.1, LO.2), facilitate interactive discussion of clinical cases and scientific approaches (supports LO.3-4) and are supported by the e-learning platform (supports LO.5). Teaching will include guidance to help you prepare for the exam and throughout you will be presented with references to further readings and other materials to support your development (supports LO.5).

Contenuti
This module explores the structure–function relationships of biological molecules, cellular signalling pathways, and metabolism, with a particular focus on the structure, organization, and function of biological membranes. You will study the main signal transduction pathways, molecular regulation of the cell cycle, cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis, as well as the biochemistry of hormones. Through understanding how molecules and cells function and interact, you gain insight into cellular and tissue function in health and disease, forming a foundation for subsequent studies in physiology, pathology, and pharmacology.
