The course is an introduction to the study of Finno-Ugric languages with a focus on Hungarian (general description of main typological characteristics, morphosyntactic structure and lexicon). The student will be required to take actively part in the course . At the end of the course, the student will be able to place the various Uralic languages in space and will have an idea the main typological characteristics of the family and of some individual languages or groups. In particular, the student will be able to describe the main phonological and morphosyntactic characteristics of the Hungarian language and to formulate simple sentences containing some of the structures studied. To this purpose, the course includes 20-hour taught by a native speaker teacher.

Teaching Methods
Frontal lesson alternating with moments of interaction between students and teacher. Students will be required to participate actively in the course. The readership includes practical language exercises.
Assessment Methods
Oral examination. open questions, reading, oral translation and analysis of a short text presented during the lectures with the reader.

Contents
The program will be divided as follows: - 20-hour lectorship: practical introduction to the Hungarian language leaded by a native speaker teacher. Exercises aimed at learning to read correctly and acquiring some simple structures and a small basic vocabulary. - Introduction to the study of the Uralic languages: Typological description of the Finno-Ugric languages; in particular, morphosyntax with attention to internal relationships within the family, differences and common linguistic traits. - Description of the main features of Hungarian within Finno-Ugric languages: e main phonological, morphological and syntactic features of the language with hints at the (linguistic) history of Hungary. - In-depth analysis of one or more topics agreed with the group.
