Contents
The first part of the course will be devoted to a theoretical introduction to corpus linguistics. The following topics will be addressed: definition of a corpus; fundamental components of a corpus; types of corpora; analytical approaches; token/type/lemma; German-language corpora; KWICs; collocations; word profiles; Sketch Engine and its analytical functions; construction of an ad hoc corpus; research questions and their operationalization; and research results.
The second part of the course will focus on the specific features of spoken German. After an overview of the differences between written and spoken language, the main characteristics of spoken German will be illustrated, with particular attention to interactional, syntactic, lexical, and morphological aspects. During this phase, students will acquire a basic understanding of several communicative genres in German. Forms of communication situated between written and spoken language will also be examined, with particular emphasis on digital communication and its main modes of expression.
In parallel with the course activities, students are required to attend supplementary teaching sessions (didattica integrativa), which will take place throughout the academic year and are designed to help them achieve proficiency in German at the C1/C2 level.
