Students will reach an A2 level of Spanish language (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), developing oral and writing comprehension and production skills through the study of phonetics/phonology and morpho-syntactic structures of the Spanish language. At the end of the course, students will understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most immediate personal relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local area, employment); they will be able to catch the main point in short, clear, simple messages and announcements. They can produce short, simple texts relating to matters in areas of immediate needs and use a series of sentences to describe in simple terms their family, living conditions, educational background and work experience. They can also communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics, and handle very short social exchanges.
Course Prerequisites
None.
Teaching Methods
The course will include lectures and laboratory sessions with active student participation. Practical activities and exercises will be conducted to enhance skills in reading and text comprehension, written production, listening, speaking and translation.
Assessment Methods
The final exam consists of a written test and an oral test (access to the oral test is granted only upon successful completion of the written component). The written exam (which lasts approximately 2 hours) includes 5–10 grammar exercises of various types (completion, transformation, translation) and a short reading comprehension text accompanied by 5–8 questions (open-ended, multiple-choice and true/false). The use of dictionaries is not permitted. The written test will be considered satisfactory (18/30) if at least 60% of the grammar exercises are answered correctly and if an adequate command of language and vocabulary is demonstrated in the open-ended questions. During the oral examination, students are expected to introduce themselves, talk about personal topics (habits, interests, plans, experiences, etc.), and interact on communicative content covered during the course.
